Gombe 2024: Games Village Nears Completion Ahead of Inter-Secondary Athletics Championships

Preparations for the inaugural Inter-Secondary Athletics Championship in Gombe are in full swing, with the Games Village nearing completion.

The championship, scheduled to take place from October 18th to 24th at the Pantami Stadium, is the brainchild of Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe, who has sponsored the event.

The Games Village, where athletes will be housed during the championship, is almost ready and awaiting commissioning.

The Chairman of the Athletics Association of Gombe State, Gara-Gombe, expressed satisfaction with the progress of work during a meeting with members of the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) and sub-committees.

The CEO of GWG Sports Center Ltd, a sports firm, also commended the progress made on the Games Village, stating that athletes will find their accommodation comfortable and conducive to relaxation and better performance.

Gara-Gombe applauded the committees for their hard work and urged them to expedite action on the remaining tasks to ensure quick completion.

He noted that the project has already gulped millions of Naira and must meet international standards.

The Inter-Secondary Athletics Championship is a groundbreaking event in Gombe State, and Gara-Gombe emphasized the benefits it will bring, including the discovery of young talented athletes, increased sports awareness, and development of sports infrastructure.

As a sports entrepreneur, Gara-Gombe is passionate about sponsoring and developing sports to enable athletes to use their talents to earn a living rather than resorting to begging on the streets.

He believes that government should recognize and encourage private corporate bodies to invest in the sports sector.

The championship is expected to be a resounding success, with athletes from various secondary schools competing in different events.

The Games Village will provide a comfortable and conducive environment for athletes to relax and focus on their performances.
