President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to inaugurate the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Conversion, Filling, Reverse Engineering, and Training Center in Utako, Abuja.
The significant event, set for Friday, May 31, 2024, signifies another milestone for NASENI in its dedication to supporting the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in sustainable energy alternatives and a clean energy environment.
The NASENI-Portland CNG Conversion and Training Center, a collaboration between NASENI and Portland Gas Limited, is a cutting-edge facility for converting fossil fuel vehicles to CNG, a cleaner and more cost-effective option.
With the latest technology and a team of highly skilled professionals ensuring efficient and safe conversions, the center aims to enhance local capacity in CNG technology.
It will provide comprehensive training programs for technicians, engineers, and other stakeholders, promoting the localization of expertise in CNG systems and encouraging the adoption of green energy solutions nationwide.
Khalil Suleiman Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, described the establishment of the NASENI-Portland Gas Reverse Engineering Center as a transformative moment for Nigeria’s energy sector.
He emphasized that the CNG Center highlights NASENI’s unwavering commitment to sustainable innovation and the development of indigenous technological and manufacturing capabilities.
“At NASENI, we are dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint and offering affordable, eco-friendly fuel alternatives to Nigerians.”
“The initiative is expected to significantly reduce vehicular emissions, leading to cleaner air and a healthier environment.
Moreover, the adoption of CNG will bring economic benefits by cutting fuel costs for consumers and creating new job opportunities in Nigeria’s green energy sector,” he added.
Halilu encouraged all stakeholders, from vehicle owners to industry professionals, to make use of the services and training opportunities available at the new centers. “Together, we can drive towards a greener, more sustainable future for Nigeria,” he concluded.
In line with the Presidential directive on CNG (PCNGi), NASENI has demonstrated expertise in automotive reverse engineering, exemplified by the successful local assembly of CNG kits.
NASENI’s team of engineers and technicians have skillfully assembled a comprehensive CNG sequential kit, including essential components such as Pressure Regulator, Petrol Solenoid Valve with manual override switch, On-Off valve, and refueling connector.
Other components comprise Control Module/Change-over Switch, CNG level Indicator (LED Indicator), Gas Air Mixer, CNG cylinder with valve, vapor bag & bracket, Petrol hose, low-pressure gas hose, ignition advance processor, wire harness, and NRV in petrol return line.
