Terrorism Allegations: Nigerian Government Sues Miyetti Allah Leader, Bello Bodejo

By Newsshelve correspondent.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has taken legal action against Bello Bodejo, the leader of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore group, on charges related to terrorism.

Bodejo appeared before a Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday for allegedly establishing and supporting an ethnic militia group called Kungiya Zaman Lafiya.

He faces a three-count charge filed by the Attorney General of the Federation, accusing him of violating the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Despite pleading not guilty, Bodejo was ordered to remain in the custody of the Defence Intelligence Agency by Justice Inyang Ekwo, who scheduled the trial to begin on May 27.

Bodejo’s arrest in Nasarawa State came shortly after the launch of the Kungiya Zaman Lafiya vigilante group by Miyetti Allah.

He then claimed that new vigilante group was intended to combat banditry, cattle rustling, and insecurity in the region.

In response to his prolonged detention, Bodejo filed a fundamental rights suit challenging the government’s actions.

However, the Attorney General, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), filed a motion seeking to keep Bodejo in custody until the investigation is completed and charges are brought against him.

Justice Inyang Ekwo granted the government permission to detain Bodejo for 15 days, after which he must either be charged or released.

The legal proceedings against Bodejo highlight the government’s efforts to address terrorism-related activities and ensure accountability for those involved.
