A joint committee of the Nigerian House of Representatives and the Senate has passed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)’s budget proposal of N549.6 billion for the year 2024.
The joint Committee approved the new proposal after a thorough review of the NCC’s 2023 budget performance.
During the review, the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, Dr. Maida, highlighted the agency’s achievements in revenue generation and data protection, despite facing challenges such as insecurity.
Dr. Maida assured the lawmakers that the Commission is committed to improving its revenue generation for the Federal government in 2024.
He also mentioned that the agency is working on measures to ensure operators comply with regulatory directives, rather than relying solely on operator sanctions for revenue.
Lawmakers, including Senator Steve Karimi and Senator Ned Nwoko, commended the NCC for its detailed report and urged the agency to enhance its operations.
They also praised the NCC for its prudent management of revenue, capital, and recurrent expenditure in 2023.
The 2023 budget performance report showed an actual revenue of N448.1 billion, with total recurrent expenditure at N67.072 billion and capital expenditure at N3.6 million.
