The Speaker of the House of Representatives,Tajudeen Abbas, has commended the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) for promoting affordable and cleaner energy solutions through the establishment of the NASENI-Portland CNG Conversion, Training Centre, and Refill Station in Kubwa, Abuja.
The Speaker, represented by Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, noted that the initiative was timely and impactful, saying, “Energy transitions are never just about technology, they are about the quality of life for our people.”
He urged Nigerians to embrace the energy transition process, emphasizing that it is essential for the country’s development.
The Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, stated that the facility is part of the agency’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President for a diversified, sustainable, and industrially vibrant economy.
He said the agency plans to replicate the facilities across all 36 states and the FCT, making it possible to convert every vehicle in Nigeria to CNG.
Halilu highlighted the benefits of CNG, including lower fuel costs, cleaner air, better engine performance, stronger energy security, and sustainable jobs for youth.
He said the agency has trained 30 Nigerian engineers in CNG conversion, auto maintenance, and clean energy technologies.
The Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, praised NASENI for the initiative and called on other government agencies to support the agency.
Other stakeholders, including representatives of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPR), also congratulated NASENI and Portland on the partnership.
