The Ataoja of Osogbo, His Royal Majesty Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, has thrown his weight behind Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2026 Osun State gubernatorial election.
The monarch made the declaration during a courtesy visit to his palace, expressing his unwavering support for Aregbesola’s candidacy.
Oba Oyetunji stated that wherever Aregbesola goes, he will follow and support him, citing Aregbesola’s dedication to the betterment of the people of Osun State.
“I’m for Aregbesola. I will never leave him. Wherever he goes, we shall follow,” he said.
“That you have come to openly declare being in a new party with all those that followed you means the whole of Osogbo will be behind you.”
The monarch praised Aregbesola for standing by him during times of pressure and expressed his gratitude for the politician’s loyalty.
Oba Oyetunji, who shared his thoughts in Yoruba language, asked the town’s chiefs and the Asiwaju of Osogbo land, Hon. Justice Moshud Adekunle Adeigbe (Rtd), if he had echoed their minds, and they all responded in affirmation of their support.
The Ataoja’s declaration is seen as a significant boost to Aregbesola’s campaign, coming from a respected traditional leader in Osun State.
The monarch’s endorsement is expected to rally support for Aregbesola among the people of Osogbo and beyond.
