Fidelity Bank Plc has distributed 2,500 food packs to vulnerable residents across eight communities in Uromi and Irrua, Edo State, as part of efforts to strengthen food security and support families facing economic pressures.
The intervention was carried out under the bank’s Fidelity Food Bank initiative and took place at the Uromi Town Hall in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
Speaking at the distribution event, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the initiative was designed to provide immediate relief to families while contributing to the bank’s broader community development efforts.
Nwagboh said the distribution was not merely about providing food but also about supporting the wellbeing and resilience of families in communities where the bank operates.
He added that the initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 2, which focuses on ending hunger, achieving food security and improving nutrition.
According to him, Fidelity Bank distributes 10,000 food packs every month through the Fidelity Food Bank programme in partnership with 19 organisations across the country.
The Edo State Government commended the bank for extending the initiative to residents of Uromi.
The state’s Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Jerry Uwangue, who represented Governor Monday Okpebholo at the event, said the intervention demonstrated the role corporate organisations could play in supporting communities.
Uwangue said the gesture was particularly significant at a time when families were facing increasing demands on their resources.
He urged other corporate organisations to emulate Fidelity Bank by supporting communities where they operate.
Beneficiaries also expressed appreciation to the bank and its partners, saying the food packs would provide relief and help reduce the burden of feeding their families.
Launched in April 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank is one of Fidelity Bank’s flagship corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at addressing hunger and malnutrition among vulnerable communities.
The bank said the programme has so far distributed more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
