Dangote Cement Ibese Plant in Ogun State has intensified its road safety campaign with a robust sensitisation program for commercial drivers and motorcycle riders.
The event, held at the Ilaro Motor Park, aimed to promote responsible driving and riding habits as vehicular traffic surges towards the year-end.
The campaign featured a safety awareness program, where Assistant Corps Commander Sulaiman Kolawole Oluwadumiye of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) warned against excessive speed, citing it as a leading cause of fatal crashes.
He emphasised the importance of understanding truck blind spots, which can be deadly for riders and drivers.
The company distributed safety kits to commercial motorcyclists, including helmets, reflective jackets, and safety goggles.
Ebere Okonkwo, Health, Safety and Environment, Dangote Cement Transport, explained that the initiative aligns with the company’s mission to promote safer roads and foster harmony between truck drivers and other road users.
The Head of Transport and Safety at Ibese Plant, Peter Abuad, led a practical session on basic road safety issues, demonstrating how drivers and riders can identify and avoid truck blind spots. He highlighted four critical danger zones and warned riders to steer clear during lane changes and turns.
Officials from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) and the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) lauded Dangote Cement for its continuous investments in public safety and awareness programs aimed at improving road behavior by commercial drivers and riders.
Beneficiaries of the program, including David Odumoye and Rafiu Olusegun, thanked Dangote Cement for the initiative and the protective kits. They expressed their commitment to putting the lessons learned into practice and prioritizing safe riding habits.
The campaign ended with a road show and a strong reminder for riders to choose patience, responsibility, and life over speed.
