The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has opened a new office in Sokoto to enhance standardisation and support local enterprises.
The office was commissioned by the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Enoh.
The new office aims to bring essential regulatory services closer to the people of Sokoto and the wider North-West region.
It will support industries such as agriculture, leather processing, solid minerals, textiles, and food production, where Sokoto State has a comparative advantage.
The Minister noted that the office will play a critical role in promoting standardization, quality assurance, and consumer protection.
He commended the Director General and Management Team of SON for their commitment to expanding SON’s reach and modernizing its operations.
The office will provide a range of services, including product certification, inspection, testing, and market surveillance.
It will also serve as a training and advisory hub for micro, small, and medium enterprises seeking to improve their processes and access larger markets.
The Director General of SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Okeke, said the new office is a strategic infrastructure investment designed to enhance SON’s capacity to deliver quality services to stakeholders.
He emphasised that SON is committed to ensuring that locally produced goods meet standards that guarantee consumer confidence and competitiveness in both domestic and export markets.
