The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced compliance monitoring along the Tsamiya-Segbana-Kamba corridor following the reopening of the Tsamiya/Segbana border for transit operations.
On Monday, February 9, 2026, the Customs Area Controller, Kebbi Area Command, Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, in company with the Comptroller of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone B, Comptroller Aminu Sule, conducted an inspection to assess adherence to approved procedures governing the movement of transit goods along the corridor. The exercise covered the Maje border route through to Kamba.

The inspection followed the approval of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for the reopening of the Tsamiya/Segbana border strictly for transit purposes.
Several dignitaries were present during the exercise, including Senator Ahmed Tijjani Affor Obo of the Republic of Benin; Commander Maigizo Yahaya Tubil of the Bureau de Douane, Niger Republic; the Chief of Staff to the Kebbi State Government, Barrister Attahiru Maccido; and the Kebbi State Chairman of Stakeholders, Idi Bagudo.
Addressing stakeholders at the inspection site, Comptroller Matawalle explained that the assignment was aimed at ensuring strict compliance with regulations guiding the transit of legitimate goods across Nigeria’s international borders with Benin and Niger Republics through Kebbi State, particularly the Tsamiya/Segbana and Kamba routes, to other African destinations.
He stressed the importance of preventing the diversion of transit trucks for local consumption and called on traditional rulers and host communities to support the Service by ensuring smooth movement of trucks and a peaceful operating environment along the corridor.

In his remarks, Comptroller Aminu Sule assured stakeholders of the Federal Operations Unit’s support, noting that the NCS would provide all necessary assistance to facilitate legitimate cross-border trade in line with its statutory mandate.
Representatives of the customs authorities of Benin and Niger Republics commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Kebbi State Government and the Comptroller-General of Customs for approving the transit arrangement and creating a platform for sustained dialogue among stakeholders.
The District Head of Kamba, Mamuda Zarumai, Sarkin Shikon Kamba, also expressed appreciation to the government and pledged the cooperation of the Kamba community with the Nigeria Customs Service, describing the initiative as beneficial to all Nigerians.
Speaking on behalf of stakeholders, the Kebbi State Chairman, Idi Bagudo, assured full compliance with all regulations guiding transit operations and pledged that stakeholders would not tolerate any diversion of trucks from their approved destinations in the Niger Republic.

The inspection exercise concluded with the escort of transit trucks from Kamba across the border to Tungan Kado in the Niger Republic.
