A recent documentary and case study produced by Moniepoint Inc has highlighted the resilience of the North East’s agricultural value chain, despite ongoing security challenges and economic pressures.

The documentary, titled “Inside Nigeria’s Food Chain,” explores the food industry supply chain in the North East region, particularly in Borno State, and showcases how local farmers are connected to the broader national market.

Dr. Tope Fasua, Special Adviser to the President on Economic Affairs, praised the documentary and case study for capturing the impact of digital financial services on economic inclusion among rural communities.

The documentary features interviews with farmers, traders, and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector, and highlights the importance of informal, trust-based networks in powering Nigeria’s food chain.

These networks, built on generational knowledge and social capital, have proven more durable and adaptable in crisis than formal institutions.

Moniepoint’s Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Edidiong Uwemakpan, noted that the project was designed to tell the story of the people and the impact of digital financial services on their lives.

She explained that the company had adopted a hyperlocal approach to build trust with its users and tailor its services to fit the existing lifestyle and trading habits of Nigerians.

The documentary has been well-received by stakeholders, including civil society organizations, the diplomatic community, and policy-making institutions.

It has highlighted the importance of showcasing the resilience and diversity of Nigeria’s agricultural sector, particularly in regions that have been affected by insecurity.

Overall, the documentary and case study demonstrate the potential of digital financial services to drive economic inclusion and empower smallholder farmers in Nigeria.

By telling the story of the people and the impact of these services, Moniepoint has made a significant contribution to the conversation on sustainable agriculture and financial inclusion in Nigeria.
