The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has commended the Federal Government of Nigeria on its “Nigeria First” policy directive aimed at prioritizing patronage of made-in-Nigeria goods and services and development of local content.
According to the Director General of MAN, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, this initiative is a welcome development that demonstrates the government’s commitment to promoting local industries, boosting economic growth, and creating jobs for Nigerians.
The association believes that giving preference to locally produced goods and services will stimulate demand, increase capacity utilization, and attract investments into the manufacturing sector.
MAN estimates that effective implementation of this policy could scale investments, boost GDP by 56%, reduce unemployment by 37%, and increase firms’ willingness to employ.
Ajayi-Kadir stressed the need for all tiers of government, private sector entities, and individuals to support this initiative by patronizing made-in-Nigeria goods and services, particularly in government contracts.
He emphasized the importance of government leading by example and consulting with manufacturers to achieve effective implementation.
MAN looks forward to working with the federal government and other stakeholders to actualize the “Nigeria First” project, which aims to build a prosperous, diversified, and inclusive economy that benefits all Nigerians.
