The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Adamawa Command has made a significant seizure, confiscating smuggled Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) worth N22.9 million along the Nigeria-Cameroon border.
This operation was carried out under the auspices of Operation Whirlwind, led by Assistant Comptroller-General Husseini Ejibunu.
During a press conference in Yola, Ejibunu revealed that the seized fuel was intercepted at strategic locations, including Maiha, Mubi, Gurin, and Belel flashpoints in the state.
He emphasized that the operation was intelligence-driven and executed with precision, demonstrating the NCS’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding national resources and ensuring compliance with the law.
Ejibunu noted that PMS smuggling remains a significant challenge, driven by economic disparities and the lure of quick profits.
He reassured that the NCS, under the leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adeniyi, will continue to dismantle smuggling networks and bring economic saboteurs to justice.
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has also reaffirmed its partnership with the NCS in tackling fuel smuggling.
Quin Dauda, representing the NMDPRA, urged marketers to abide by regulations, emphasizing that PMS is meant for local consumption and should not be smuggled out of the country.
