President Tinubu Urges Quality Culture to Boost Nigeria’s Economic Growth

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has challenged Nigeria’s organized private sector to demand quality products and services from the public sector, and vice versa, to promote a quality culture nationwide.

This call was made through Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, at a workshop on Sustainable Provision of Metrology Services in Nigeria held in Lagos.

The President emphasized that a culture of quality would enhance Nigeria’s ability to trade seamlessly beyond its borders, particularly under the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA) and the Federal Government’s economic diversification agenda.

To achieve this, the government is advocating for a sustainable National Quality Infrastructure, which would support increased non-oil exports, foreign exchange earnings, and job creation.

The National Quality Council (NQC) has expressed its commitment to this goal, aiming to establish a robust quality infrastructure that accommodates both the public and private sectors.

The UK Government has pledged its support for Nigeria’s economic diversification and trade enhancement efforts through the Standards Partnership Programme (SPP).

Dr. Simeon Umukoro of the UK Department for Business and Trade noted that improving Nigeria’s National Quality Infrastructure would unlock new opportunities for innovation, competitiveness, and economic growth for both nations.

Key stakeholders, including the NQC, the UK Government, and the Federal Government, have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting a quality culture in Nigeria, recognizing its potential to drive economic growth, improve trade efficiency, and enhance the nation’s competitiveness globally.
