SON Commemorates World Standards Day 2024, Boosts Manufacturer Confidence

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has joined the global community in celebrating World Standards Day, emphasizing its commitment to standardization, quality assurance, and conformity assessment.

This year’s theme, “Shared Vision for a Better World: Spotlight on SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure in the Age of AI,” aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Home agenda to boost economic growth.

Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, Director-General/Chief Executive of SON, highlighted the crucial role of standardization in driving economic transformation and sustainable development.

“Standardization is the bedrock of any nation’s economic development,” he stated. “Therefore, adherence to standards is imperative.”

SON has made significant strides in promoting standardization and quality assurance, supporting Nigeria’s economic growth and sustainable development.

SON has adopted international standards for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) products to ensure quality service delivery in the transport sector.

Additionally, the organization has awarded the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certificate to numerous products, demonstrating its commitment to quality assurance.

SON has also provided training to stakeholders on standards and quality assurance, and established National Technical Committees to develop and review Nigerian standards.

To commemorate World Standards Day, SON organized a roadshow ceremony, followed by roadshows in geopolitical zones throughout the week.

The organization also engaged with stakeholders and promoted standardization through outreach programs.

Furthermore, SON will provide virtual training for micro, small, and medium enterprises to enhance their manufacturing processes.

Dr. Okeke commended SON’s management, staff, and stakeholders for their efforts, reaffirming SON’s commitment to improving life through standardization, fostering consumer confidence, and enhancing global competitiveness of Made-in-Nigeria products.

As the national standards body, SON will continue to facilitate business and promote standardization, quality assurance, and conformity assessment.

The successful roadshow ceremony drew participants from the private sector, NGOs, government ministries, and agencies.
