Shi’ite Group Launches Deadly Surprise Attack on Police in Abuja, Two Officers Killed

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that two officers were killed and three left unconscious after a surprise attack by the proscribed Shi’ite group in Abuja.

The attack occurred on Sunday at Wuse Junction by the traffic light, where the group attacked a police checkpoint unprovoked.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the attackers wielded machetes, improvised explosive devices, and knives.

The attack resulted in the death of two police personnel attached to the post, while three others were left unconscious and are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

Additionally, three police patrol vehicles were set ablaze during the attack.

The Commissioner of Police FCT, Benneth Igweh, has condemned the attack on the police officers and assured that those involved will be brought to book.

He noted that several arrests have already been made and the situation is currently under control, with normalcy restored.

The attack is a disturbing reminder of the threat posed by the proscribed Shi’ite group, which has been linked to several violent incidents in the past.

The Nigeria Police Force has vowed to take decisive action against the group and ensure that those responsible for the attack are held accountable.

The incident has also raised concerns about the safety and security of police personnel and the need for increased measures to protect them from such attacks.

The police have assured that they will do everything possible to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure that their personnel are adequately equipped to deal with such situations.

In the meantime, the police have called on the public to remain calm and go about their normal activities, assuring them that the situation is under control.

They have also urged anyone with information about the attack or the whereabouts of the perpetrators to come forward and assist the police in their investigation.
