Agencies IGR: AIMAN Asks Nigerian Government to Review 50% Automatic Deductions Policy

The Aeronautical Information Management Association of Nigeria (AIMAN) has urged the Nigerian Government to reconsider the policy of 50% automatic deductions from agencies’ internally generated revenue (IGR).

AIMAN emphasized the importance of prioritizing air travel safety over economic considerations, particularly in light of the critical role played by agencies like the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

During the 2024 World AIS Day celebration, AIMAN’s former President, William George Ngerem, specifically called for the exemption of NAMA from the 50% IGR reduction to facilitate enhanced productivity.

He pcommended Minister Festus Keyamo for his efforts in securing a N40 billion intervention fund for NAMA’s AIS Automation project.

Ngerem called for sustained commitment to completing the project, highlighting the benefits it would bring to air-to-ground communication and overall airspace enhancement.

NAMA’s Managing Director, Engr Umar Farouk, revealed that the agency was nearing completion of the AIS Automation project, which would significantly improve revenue generation and operational efficiency.

Farouk stressed the importance of digitalization and automation in modernizing air navigation systems, emphasizing the positive impact on safety and decision-making processes.

In light of the upcoming AIS Automation launch, NAMA has been training staff to ensure a smooth transition.

The 2024 World AIS Day celebration also saw the election of new AIMAN executives, with Dr Audu Ibrahim elected as President.

The event, themed “Efficient Data Management in an Automated Environment,” highlighted the importance of accurate and timely information in ensuring safe and efficient air navigation.

AIMAN, as an affiliate of IFAIMA, plays a crucial role in collecting and disseminating aeronautical information to support air navigation in Nigeria.

Overall, AIMAN’s call for a review of automatic deductions and continued support for AIS Automation reflects the organization’s commitment to enhancing air travel safety and efficiency in Nigeria.
