The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has uploaded the list of products certified under its Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) to its official website to enable consumers to identify and purchase quality products.
The Director-General of SON, Dr Ifeanyi Okeke, disclosed this during the ongoing Creative Africa Nexus Weekend (CANEX WKND) 2026 at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
Okeke, who led a team of SON officials to the exhibition, said the initiative would make it easier for consumers to verify certified products and make informed purchasing decisions.
According to him, the online publication would also recognise manufacturers who comply with established quality standards while helping to protect consumers from substandard products.
“This development will help consumers find and buy quality products easily. It puts the power of choice in the hands of the Nigerian consumer, and it rewards manufacturers who have done the right thing by meeting our standards,” he said.
The SON boss urged Nigerians to visit the organisation’s website to verify products carrying its certification marks and report any suspected fake or questionable certification marks.
He explained that the agency’s participation in CANEX WKND 2026 was part of efforts to take its quality assurance message directly to manufacturers, small business owners and consumers.
“Our presence here is about meeting businesses where they are. Many creative and small enterprises have excellent products but do not know how to get them certified.
“Certification opens doors to bigger markets, here at home and across Africa, and it protects the consumer,” Okeke said.
At the SON exhibition stand, officials engaged exhibitors and visitors on product certification requirements under the Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS).
They also provided information on MANCAP, which covers locally manufactured products, and the SON Conformity Assessment Programme (SONCAP), which applies to imported products.
Visitors were educated on how to identify substandard and counterfeit goods, authenticate SON certification marks and report suspicious products.
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) also received guidance on the certification process, including application procedures, product testing and final approval.
Okeke said the agency’s participation in the event aligned with the Federal Government’s economic development agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He stressed that Nigerian-made products must meet international quality standards to compete effectively in local and global markets, particularly under the Federal Government’s Nigeria First policy.
He added that strengthening product certification and quality assurance would boost confidence in locally manufactured goods, support Nigerian businesses and improve their access to markets across Africa and beyond.
