Fidelity Bank Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience through its continued partnership with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) and the Lagos State Government at the 20th edition of the Walk for Nature in Lagos.
The event, held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Lagos, was organised under the theme, “Inspired for Climate Action.”
Speaking at the event, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications Division of Fidelity Bank, Dr Meksley Nwagboh, described the 20th edition of the initiative as evidence of the importance of sustained partnerships in promoting environmental conservation and responsible environmental practices.
He said environmental sustainability remained central to building resilient communities and supporting long-term economic growth, noting that the bank’s commitment extended beyond advocacy to practical interventions.
“At Fidelity Bank, we recognise that environmental sustainability is integral to building resilient communities and supporting long-term economic growth. Our commitment goes beyond advocacy to practical initiatives that promote cleaner energy, environmental awareness and responsible resource management,” Nwagboh said.
He listed the bank’s interventions to include support for renewable energy solutions, environmental education, tree-planting programmes, recycling initiatives and community beautification projects.
According to him, the theme of this year’s walk underscores the need to translate environmental awareness into concrete actions by individuals and communities.
He urged Nigerians to embrace environmentally responsible habits, including conserving resources, reducing waste, planting trees and adopting sustainable lifestyles.
Nwagboh also commended the NCF and Lagos State Government for their longstanding collaboration with the bank, stressing that addressing environmental challenges required sustained commitment from both public and private sector stakeholders.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Gaji Omobolaji Tajudeen, highlighted the importance of protecting wetlands, mangroves and waterways to mitigate flooding and strengthen climate resilience.
He disclosed that the state government was targeting the planting of 20,000 trees in 2026 as part of efforts to improve environmental quality and enhance urban resilience.
Gaji urged residents to take greater responsibility for environmental protection by ensuring proper waste disposal and adopting environmentally friendly practices.
He noted that preserving wetlands, waterways and green spaces was critical to reducing flooding risks and building a climate-resilient Lagos.
In a goodwill message, environmental advocate and Founder of Green Education for the Youth, Chief Olufunso Amosun, called on young people to take a leading role in environmental conservation.
Amosun said environmental protection should extend beyond organised campaigns, urging youths to educate their peers, promote sustainable habits and serve as conservation ambassadors within their communities.
The 20th Walk for Nature further highlights Fidelity Bank’s broader environmental sustainability and community development agenda, with the bank using strategic partnerships and stakeholder engagement to promote responsible environmental practices.
