Fidelity Bank Plc has extended food assistance to more than 1,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State under its Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, reinforcing its commitment to tackling hunger and supporting vulnerable communities.
The outreach, carried out in partnership with the Plateau State Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Office and supported by the ABBASID Charity Foundation, saw displaced families in transit camps receive food items, including bags of rice, cartons of noodles and tomatoes.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, the Divisional Head of Brand and Communications at Fidelity Bank, Dr Meksley Nwagboh, said the initiative reflects the bank’s commitment to providing humanitarian support to vulnerable groups across the country.
According to him, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative was established to provide sustenance to underserved communities and reduce the burden of hunger among Nigerians facing difficult circumstances.
“We are delighted to be in Mangu to extend this support to families affected by displacement. We hope this intervention helps nourish households and contributes to easing the burden of hunger they currently face,” he said.
Nwagboh noted that the programme is part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda, which focuses on addressing food insecurity and improving the welfare of vulnerable populations affected by economic hardship and displacement.
Also speaking, the Project Coordinator of the Plateau State Sustainable Development Goals Office, Mrs Nanbam Danjuma-Lot, described the intervention as timely, noting that many families in the IDP camps continue to struggle following attacks that displaced them from their communities.
She said the partnership between the state government, Fidelity Bank and humanitarian organisations demonstrates a shared commitment to supporting affected communities and helping them rebuild their lives.
Founder of the ABBASID Charity Foundation, Hajiya Hauwa Abbas, said the collaboration with Fidelity Bank has enabled the foundation to reach between 32 and 40 vulnerable communities across Nigeria with food assistance.
She stressed that strategic partnerships remain essential to addressing food insecurity and providing relief to families experiencing economic hardship.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Village Head of Changal Community, Mr Titus Abednago, expressed appreciation to Fidelity Bank, the Plateau State Government and other partners for the intervention.
He described the food donation as a source of hope for displaced families and appealed for sustained efforts to restore peace so residents could return to their farms and rebuild their livelihoods.
