The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched its Management Information System (MIS) File Tracker, with the pilot phase commencing at the Port and Terminal Multi-services Limited (PTML) Area Command as part of efforts to strengthen digital administration and improve operational efficiency.
Speaking at the launch, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, said the initiative forms part of the Service’s broader strategy to deepen the use of technology in personnel administration while promoting faster and more efficient processing of documentation.
Represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of ICT and Modernisation, Oluyomi Adebakin, the Customs boss described the deployment as another milestone in the Service’s ongoing modernisation agenda, which focuses on deploying digital solutions to enhance operational efficiency, improve transparency and facilitate seamless trade.
Adebakin reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to leveraging technology to transform its operations and improve service delivery. She noted that following the successful implementation of digital platforms such as the Nigeria Trade Portal and the Customs Verification Management System, the MIS File Tracker further demonstrates the NCS’s commitment to innovation and global best practices.
According to her, the platform is designed as an enterprise-wide solution for Customs administrative processes, serving as a Single Sign-On (SSO) application that enables a unified data set to be used across all administrative departments.
She said the application would support key administrative functions, including leave and pass applications, file tracking, duty rosters, internal staff orders, nominal rolls and other personnel-related processes. The platform also provides channels for officers to submit feedback on areas requiring improvements, modifications and additional features.
Adebakin urged Customs officers to fully utilise the platform, noting that it would streamline internal workflows, reduce manual processes and support data-driven decision-making across the Service.
She added that the deployment would further strengthen PTML Command’s reputation as a leading centre for innovation within the Nigeria Customs Service.
PTML Area Command has consistently served as the pilot location for several Customs modernisation initiatives, including the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), popularly known as B’Odogwu, owing to its reputation as one of the Service’s most technologically advanced commands.
Speaking at the event, the Acting Controller of PTML Area Command, Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko, expressed confidence in the command’s ability to successfully implement the pilot and set the standard for future rollouts across the Service.
Miko said the command remained committed to maximising all technology-driven trade facilitation initiatives introduced by the Customs management.
He thanked the Comptroller-General for the confidence reposed in the command, adding that efforts were underway to reduce the current two-hour cargo clearance time for compliant Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) cargoes to just one hour.
Describing the MIS File Tracker as another bold step in the Service’s digital transformation journey, Miko pledged that the PTML Command would justify the confidence placed in it by ensuring the successful implementation of the platform from the pilot phase through full deployment.
