Nigeria Customs Service and Defence Bureau Test Locally Built Airboat for Anti-Smuggling Operations

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Defence Research and Development Bureau (DRDB) have jointly tested a locally developed airboat designed to enhance maritime security and anti-smuggling operations.

The airboat, tested recently at Jabi Lake, Abuja, is specifically designed to navigate shallow and hard-to-reach waterways, making it an invaluable asset for Nigeria’s security arsenal.

Experts have highlighted its unique capabilities, positioning it as a valuable addition to the country’s security infrastructure.

Comptroller Haniel Haddison, who oversees Special Duties at NCS Headquarters, praised the innovation as a milestone in indigenous technology, emphasizing its role in advancing anti-smuggling efforts and capacity building.

He commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for promoting synergy and collaboration with sister agencies.

Rear Admiral Suleiman El-Ladan, Director of Maritime Research and Development at DRDB, highlighted the significance of inter-agency collaboration in strengthening maritime security.

He noted that partnerships like this are crucial to addressing evolving threats and enhancing operational capacity.

The successful test of the locally built airboat demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging indigenous technology to enhance its security capabilities.
