The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command, has intensified efforts to eliminate trade barriers along the Lagos-Abidjan corridor by strengthening collaboration with key stakeholders and security agencies.
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Kaila, disclosed this during a series of familiarisation visits to traditional rulers and sister security agencies in Badagry, Lagos State.
The visits, he said, underscore the command’s commitment to aligning its operations with Federal Government economic policies aimed at enhancing trade facilitation and border security.
During a visit to the palace of the Oba Akran of Badagry Kingdom, the Controller also condoled with the royal family and residents over the passing of the monarch, HRM De Wheno Aholu Menu Toyi I, described as a respected leader across border communities.
Kaila noted that the engagement was aimed at seeking royal support to achieve the core mandates of the Service, including revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling operations. He emphasised that collaboration with traditional institutions remains critical to effective customs operations.
Responding, the King Regent, Chief Abel Ogunbiyi, assured the Customs of continued cooperation, describing Badagry as a peaceful community committed to supporting lawful trade and border security.
The Controller also visited the Onibereko of Ibereko Awori Kingdom, Oba Israel Okoya, who pledged to mobilise community support for Customs operations and discourage illegal activities among youths.
