The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) and the Western Port Police Command have agreed to collaborate to enhance security and operational efficiency at Nigerian ports.
This partnership aims to foster a safer and more productive maritime environment through mutual cooperation and information sharing.
The MWUN President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, CP Olanrewaju Olawale Ishola.
During the meeting, Comrade Abi commended the Command’s efforts in maintaining security across port facilities and expressed the Union’s readiness to deepen its cooperation with the Police.
The Union pledged to support law enforcement initiatives, promote discipline among members, and foster industrial harmony within the maritime space.
CP Ishola acknowledged the Union’s crucial role in the port system and welcomed its commitment to peace and collaboration.
He emphasised that effective port security hinges on active stakeholder engagement and assured the delegation of the Command’s continued support and impartial enforcement of the law.
Both parties agreed on the need for constant communication and joint efforts to tackle emerging security challenges in the maritime corridor.
The meeting concluded with mutual expressions of goodwill and a renewed pledge to safeguard the interests of maritime workers and uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s port infrastructure.
