SON Urges Local Lubricant Manufacturers to Prioritise Quality Standards

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has urged local lubricant manufacturers to prioritize quality standards to enhance their global market competitiveness.

This call was made recently during a one-day training and workshop for Journalists held at the SON Laboratory Complex in Ogba, Lagos, aimed at reinforcing the vital role of quality assurance in Nigeria’s petroleum sector.

SON emphasized that embracing robust standards is essential for consumer safety and opening doors to regional and global markets.

The organisation’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Talatu Ethan, stated that standards are powerful tools for innovation, growth, and trade, and adherence to standards is Nigeria’s passport to the international market.

“Compliance with standards enhances Nigeria’s export potential, particularly under the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), boosting confidence and trust in local products.” She said.

SON’s laboratory now covers a comprehensive range of petroleum products, including engine oils, hydraulic fluids, and aviation fuel, with advanced equipment for accurate testing.

Ethan retreated the organisations committment to accuracy and international best practices, with many tests currently under accreditation in line with ISO 17025 standards.

SON encourages manufacturers to utilize its facilities for conformity assessment to cultivate a culture of quality and competitiveness across Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
