The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has inaugurated Thompson Oludare Sunday as the new Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) and Dr. Kabir Sabo Katata as Executive Director (Operations). The inauguration took place at the Ministry of Finance in Abuja.
During the occasion, Minister Edun emphasized the crucial role NDIC plays in Nigeria’s march towards economic stability and prosperity as a key component of the financial safety-net.
He tasked the new management team to leverage their diverse expertise to deliver on the corporation’s mandate, assuring them of the ministry’s full support.

In response, Thompson Sunday, speaking on behalf of the management team, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their appointment.
He assured Minister Edun of the team’s readiness to meet the expectations of both the President and the nation, pledging to uphold public trust in NDIC and deliver on its statutory mandate.
Thompson Oludare Sunday is a seasoned financial expert with over 30 years of regulatory and supervisory experience.
He previously worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for 24 years, retiring as a Director in 2021. His expertise includes corporate governance, risk management, and compliance.

Dr. Kabir Sabo Katata is a quantitative energy strategist and computational finance expert with over 28 years of experience in designing and managing innovative systems in multiple industries.
He is a specialist in sophisticated financial optimization and application of modern statistical techniques to energy, deposit insurance, and banking sectors.
The new management team was warmly received at the NDIC Head Office, where Sunday promised to work harmoniously with staff to elevate the corporation’s performance.
He emphasized that the management’s focus will be guided by public policy objectives, functions, and the mandate devolved on the corporation by its enabling law.
