The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Nigeria recently unveiled its 2025 conference, emphasizing the crucial role internal auditors play in helping organizations achieve their goals.
According to IIA Chief Executive Officer, Ambrose Enuma, internal auditors do more than just focus on financials; they provide assurance, identify risks, control risks, and ensure compliance with procedures.
He noted that Internal auditors facilitate the achievement of stated goals by assisting organizations in following operational processes and identifying risks that could hinder goal attainment.
“They enable organizations to mitigate risks and avoid them altogether.” He said.
IIA President and Chairman, Simon-Jude Mmayie, highlighted that internal auditors provide assurance to the board and offer advisory and consulting services.
The IIA provides sustained capacity-building opportunities for its members. The 2025 conference theme, “Living the Future: Fusing Tech and Ethics,” emphasizes the importance of understanding technology’s impact and compliance with ethics.
The Institute plans to increase public awareness and member empowerment, with two conferences scheduled for 2025: one in May and another in September.
The conferences aim to equip internal auditors with the necessary skills to evaluate their roles and appreciate future developments.
Internal auditors play a vital role in driving operational efficiencies by standardizing tasks, reducing complexity, and avoiding duplication of efforts.
They identify and mitigate risks to ensure organizational continuity, implement technology to drive efficiency, and continuously challenge the status quo and innovate to sustain growth.
By focusing on these areas, internal auditors can help organizations achieve their objectives and enhance efficiency, productivity, and profitability.
