NCS Denies Reports of Comptroller-General’s Tenure Extension

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has refuted claims of an alleged extension of the tenure of Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi. In a recent statement, the NCS described the reports as “inaccurate and misleading”.

The statement emphasized that appointments and tenure extensions for the Comptroller-General are made solely at the discretion of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, in line with the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.

The NCS clarified that no directive has been received from the Presidency or any authorized channel regarding an extension of the Comptroller-General’s tenure.

The Service remains committed to its statutory mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security under the leadership of CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

The statement urged the public and stakeholders to rely only on official channels for accurate information regarding the agency.

The Service reassured Nigerians of its dedication to transparency, professionalism, and national service.

The development has raised questions about succession planning within key revenue-generating agencies, highlighting the importance of official communication channels in government appointments.
