The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has appointed Talatu Ethan as its new Director, Public Relations.
This appointment is a testament to Ethan’s exceptional leadership skills and her extensive experience in standardization and quality assurance.
Ethan brings over two decades of expertise in Food Science and public engagement to her new role.
Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master of Technology degree in Microbiology from the Federal University of Technology, Minna.
In addition to her academic qualifications, Ethan holds several notable certifications, including ISO/IEC 17025 Laboratory Assessor, Food Safety Management System (FSMS), Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) Lead Auditor, and Certified Food Scientist of Nigeria.
These certifications demonstrate her expertise in laboratory analyses, quality management systems, and food safety management.
As a national expert in food fortification and vitamins/minerals analysis, Ethan has made significant contributions to advancing public health initiatives in Nigeria and beyond.
She has created awareness on food safety, nutrition, and has engaged in several sensitization campaigns to support Nigeria’s non-oil sector.
Ethan’s distinguished career includes serving as SON’s Director for the North Central Region, Lagos Operations, and South-West Regional Operations.
She has also served as the Head of Micronutrients Laboratory and Head of Codex Contact Point for Nigeria, where she demonstrated exceptional leadership.
In her new role as Director, Public Relations, Ethan will be responsible for advancing the Standards Organisation of Nigeria’s public relations initiatives while fostering trust and collaboration with stakeholders.
Her wealth of expertise, coupled with her commitment to excellence, will be invaluable in strengthening SON’s public relations efforts and enhancing its stakeholder engagements.
Ethan is also actively engaged in professional and scientific organizations. She is the Vice-President of the Mycotoxicology Society of Nigeria (MSN), a Board Member of the AOAC-Africa Section, and a member of the Global Micronutrients Forum.
She is also a member of the Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (IPAN), Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST), and Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria.
