Finance Conference: AMJON Set to Host Marmite Industry Stakeholders and Nigerian Banks in Lagos.

The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) is set to host the 2024 Finance Conference, themed, “Vessel/Acquisition: Nigerian Banks, Insurance Firms, Government and the Blue Economy” on Thursday, August 22, 2024, 10 am, at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers in Ikeja, Lagos.

The hybrid event aims to bring together industry stakeholders, Nigerian banks, and leading financial institutions to unlock the huge untapped maritime resources in the Blue Economy, estimated at over US$5.9 trillion annually.

The conference will feature prominent participants, including Managing Director of NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited (NSML), Abdulkadir Ahmed; Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola; and Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Abubakar Dantsoho.

Banking institutions like Fidelity Bank will also participate, with Fidelity Bank PLC presenting a paper on “Funding options for Maritime Infrastructure and National Development–The Fidelity Offers and Packages.”

Other industry experts slated to speak at the event include Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, Controller of Apapa Customs Command, who will discuss “Customs Role in Trade Facilitation: Issues and Challenges.” Comptroller Dera Nnadi, Customs Area Controller of Tin Can Island Command, Apapa, will present a paper on Time Release Study.

AMJON President Paul Ogbuokiri stated that the 2024 edition is packed with expert brainstorming sessions to proffer solutions to the challenges of attracting investment and financing to the Nigerian Maritime industry.

Chairman of the 2024 Planning Committee, Kelvin Kagbare, assured that all necessary arrangements have been made for a successful event.

Industry bigwigs, including the President General of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, and the President of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Emenike Nwokeoji, are expected to attend the event.

The conference will be chaired by Abdulkadir Ahmed, who will also present a paper on “Training and Capacity for Sailors and Mariners.” Dr. Mobereola will present a paper on “Actualizing the Vision of the Blue Economy,” while Dantsoho will deliver a keynote speech on “Repositioning The Ports For Greater Efficiency–The NPA Option.”
