Shipping Activities: NIMASA Explains Absence Of DG At National Assembly Joint Committee Siting In Abuja.

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, says the non appearance of its Director General, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, before the joint committee of the National Assembly investigating activities of foreign vessel owners in the country, was not deliberate.

In a statement signed by the Head, Corporate Communications, lsichei Osamgbi, the agency aid Dr Peterside could not honour the invitation of the committee to appear personally because he was at the same time hosting the House Committee on Maritime Safety, Education and Administration who were on oversight visit to NIMASA in Lagos.

According to the statement. NIMASA Management communicated the clash of both schedules to the National Assembly joint committee for a change of date.

The statement noted however, that a member of the Executive Management team in person of the Executive Director Maritime Labour and Cabotage services, Gambo Ahmed, led a high powered team to represent the Agency.

“NIMASA Management respects the National Assembly and will always respond to invitation from them.” The Statement read.
