The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has announced a temporary halt in the issuance of new Communications licences in three categories: Interconnect Exchange Licence, Mobile Virtual Network Operator Licence, and Value Added Service Aggregator Licence.
In a statement signed by Reuben Muoka, Director of Public Affairs at NCC, it was mentioned that the suspension is in accordance with the powers granted to the Commission under the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) 2003.
This is to ensure fair competition and foster the development of the Communications Industry.
The temporary suspension is deemed necessary to allow the Commission to conduct a comprehensive review of various key aspects within these categories, such as the current level of competition, market saturation, and prevailing market dynamics.
Starting from May 17, 2024, new applications for the aforementioned licences will not be accepted during the suspension period.
However, pending applications will still be considered based on their individual merits.
