Depositor Protection: Minister Commends NDIC, Pledges Enhanced Financial Inclusion

During a recent courtesy visit to the Management of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) in Abuja, the Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, expressed his appreciation for the Corporation’s efforts in safeguarding depositors from the negative effects of bank failures.
The Minister praised the NDIC for its consistent support of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in overseeing the banking sector and ensuring the stability of the nation’s financial system.
He also pledged the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the NDIC to increase public awareness of the Corporation’s mandate and activities, particularly among youth and unbanked populations in rural areas through the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA) initiative.
Olawande explained that NiYA was established in response to a Presidential mandate to unleash the creative potential of Nigerian youth for employment generation and wealth creation.
The initiative aims to empower seven million youths with transformative skills through online classes, job fairs, and access to resources and funding.
The Ministry is also partnering with agencies focused on skills acquisition and empowerment to achieve its objectives.
In response, the Executive Director (Operations) of the NDIC, Mustapha Ibrahim, who represented the Managing Director/Chief Executive, Bello Hassan, commended the Ministry for the NiYA initiative.
Ibrahim highlighted the potential of NiYA to enhance capacity building, empower Nigerian youths, and promote business activities, entrepreneurship, and wealth creation.
He emphasized that this aligns with NDIC’s goals of promoting financial inclusion and strengthening public confidence in the nation’s financial system.
The friendly tone of the meeting reflected the mutual commitment to enhancing financial inclusion and empowering Nigerian youth for the nation’s development.
The Executive Director (Operations) presented NDIC souvenirs to the Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, during the courtesy call, while the Executive Director (Corporate Services), Mrs. Emily Osuji, looked on.
