Dangote Group, Botswana Exchange Commend NGX Group on Cross-Border Investment Drive

Dangote Industries Limited and the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) have commended Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group) for promoting collaboration among African capital markets to expand cross-border investment opportunities through the ongoing roadshow for the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE offer.

The commendation was made on Wednesday during an investor engagement in Gaborone, Botswana, following an earlier session in Nairobi, Kenya.

The roadshow is part of NGX Group’s broader initiative to strengthen partnerships among African exchanges, deepen regional capital-market integration and broaden investors’ access to opportunities across the continent.

Murat Erden, Group Chief Financial Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, praised NGX Group Chairman, Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga, and Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Temi Popoola, for mobilising African exchanges to support the initiative.

He traced the collaboration to an engagement convened by NGX Group in Lagos in April 2026, which brought together stakeholders to explore ways of improving cross-border investment and cooperation among African capital markets.

Erden also highlighted the role of digital innovation in widening participation in the Dangote Refinery offer, particularly the integration of WhatsApp into NGX Invest, the electronic platform for public offerings.

He acknowledged the partnership between NGX Group and participating exchanges, noting its importance in reaching investors across different African markets.

Similarly, Aobakwe Aupa Monyatsi, Chief Executive Officer of the Botswana Stock Exchange, welcomed the initiative, emphasising the importance of partnerships among African exchanges in expanding investment opportunities.

He also encouraged more markets to join the collaboration to strengthen regional participation and promote greater integration of Africa’s capital markets.

At the earlier engagement in Nairobi, Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, commended Kwairanga and Popoola for their efforts to foster cooperation among African capital-market institutions.

Dangote stressed that stronger relationships among exchanges could enable businesses to raise capital across multiple markets rather than depend solely on their domestic markets.

He cited the planned refinery project in Mokowe-Lamu, Kenya, as an example of the opportunities available to businesses operating across Africa to explore listings in different markets and attract investors from a broader geographical base.

Speaking on the initiative, Kwairanga said NGX Group was committed to building stronger connections among African capital markets to improve access to financing for businesses and provide investors with wider opportunities.

“Our vision is to build stronger connections among African capital markets, making it easier for businesses to access capital and for investors to participate in opportunities across the continent,” he said.

He added that the collaboration surrounding the Dangote Refinery offer demonstrated the potential of African exchanges to achieve shared objectives through coordinated efforts.

Popoola also underscored the need to translate the ambition of continental integration into practical partnerships that deliver tangible benefits to businesses and investors.

“When we began this engagement, our objective was continental: to bring African exchanges together and explore how we can create stronger connections between African capital markets,” he said.

NGX Invest, the Group’s electronic public-offering platform, facilitates subscriptions through more than 180 distribution channels, including stockbrokers, banks and fintech companies.

The addition of WhatsApp as an access channel is expected to further broaden the ways investors can participate in the offer by making the subscription process more accessible.

The roadshow will continue with engagements at the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) and the Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX), extending the initiative to more African markets.

The engagements are expected to create additional opportunities for collaboration among African exchanges, promote cross-border investment and strengthen the role of capital markets in mobilising funding for businesses across the continent.
