The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has announced the death of veteran journalist, David Gbemisola Adekunle, whose passing occurred on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
The President of AMJON, Vera Osokpo, described Adekunle’s passing as shocking and devastating noting that members of the association were thrown into deep grief by the news of his demise.”We are devastated by the sad news of Adekunle’s demise,” Osokpo said. ”
She called on members of AMJON and stakeholders within the maritime and media industries to rally round the family and offer support during this period of grief.
Details of the funeral arrangements released by the family indicate that a Service of Songs will hold on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at No. 5 Lawal Close, Abule Taylor, U-Turn Bus Stop, Abule Egba, Lagos.
His burial is scheduled for Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Lantoro Cemetery, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Until his death, Adekunle, popularly known as ‘Honourable’, was a staff member of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) and an active member of AMJON. He is survived by his wife and children.
