Greenwich Bank Expands Into Commercial Banking, Gets NGX Chairman’s Commendation

The Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group), Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Kwairanga, has commended Greenwich Bank for expanding its operations from merchant and investment banking into commercial banking.

Kwairanga gave the commendation on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the opening of the bank’s regional commercial banking branch in Ikoyi, Lagos.

He described the new branch as a significant milestone in Greenwich’s three-decade journey in Nigeria’s financial services industry, noting that the expansion marked the continuation of the group’s growth from capital market operations into broader banking services.

According to him, Greenwich Trust Limited began operations about 32 years ago after being registered by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a financial adviser and issuing house.

He said the company subsequently established a strong presence in the capital market through innovation and professionalism before obtaining a merchant banking licence in 2020.

Kwairanga said Greenwich Bank had since strengthened its position in investment and corporate banking, met recapitalisation requirements and improved its market share and profitability.

He also noted that the group’s recent restructuring into a holding company had created room for expansion into various investment and financial services subsectors, with commercial banking being its latest venture.

“Commercial banking is challenging, but I am confident that Greenwich Bank will do well in it given its commitment to its core values of integrity, efficiency, innovation and relationship,” he said.

Kwairanga congratulated the Greenwich Group team led by its Group Chairman, Kayode Falowo, as well as the Managing Director, Benson Ogundeji, and Director, Dr. Faruk Umar, on the new milestone.

He wished the bank continued growth and success as it expands its footprint in Nigeria’s banking industry.
