Nigeria Customs Screens Nearly 3,000 Candidates as Recruitment Exercise Ends

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has concluded the final phase of its 2025 recruitment exercise, with nearly 3,000 shortlisted candidates screened at the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Gwagwalada, Abuja.

The two-week exercise, which ran from September 7 to 19, 2026, covered candidates for the Assistant Superintendent of Customs II (ASCII), Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.

The screening involved documentation, physical fitness assessments and medical examinations, with candidates processed in batches to reduce congestion and improve efficiency at the centre.

Speaking on the exercise, the Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resource Development, Frank Onyeka, said measures were introduced to address challenges identified during the earlier phase of the recruitment.

“We have put measures in place to reduce congestion and ensure a smoother process,” Onyeka said, adding that identified gaps had been addressed.

A member of the coordinating team, Deputy Comptroller Adamu Musa, said the exercise had recorded significant improvements, noting that close to 3,000 candidates had been screened without any casualty.

Musa attributed the improved process to the introduction of personalised screening forms containing candidates’ details and records for the different stages of the exercise.

According to him, the forms contain candidates’ information for sports, medical examinations, documentation and other requirements, allowing officials to verify details already captured in the recruitment system.

He stressed the need for continuous manpower development to strengthen the NCS workforce as the Service takes on expanding responsibilities in national security, border protection and trade facilitation.

Musa also said candidates were assessed based on criteria including age, physical fitness and drug screening. He explained that candidates who test positive for hard drugs, exceed the stipulated age limit or have physical conditions considered incompatible with the duties could be disqualified, subject to the final decision of the Service’s management.

He further advised applicants and members of the public to rely on the NCS official website and verified social media platforms for recruitment information and to guard against fraudulent messages.
