Coronation Art Gallery has officially opened The Value of Belief — Collectors, Conviction and the Making of Cultural Futures, a three-month exhibition programme celebrating the role of collector-patrons in shaping Nigeria’s contemporary art landscape.
The exhibition, which opened at Coronation Plaza, Victoria Island, Lagos, brought together business leaders, senior executives, collectors, artists, media practitioners and members of the creative community.
The event was also attended by the Chairman of Coronation Group, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, CFR, and members of the Group’s Board.
The exhibition features works from the private collections of three Nigerian collector-patrons — Kayode Adegbola, Kola Aina and Seyi Ajibola — whose long-term investments in artists and creative communities have contributed to the growth of contemporary Nigerian art.
Spanning painting, sculpture and mixed media, the collections highlight the role of deliberate patronage and conviction in building sustainable cultural and creative ecosystems.
Speaking on the exhibition, Managing Partner of Coronation Capital, Kayode Akindele, said The Value of Belief reflects the conviction required to recognise and invest in potential before it gains wider acceptance.
“The Value of Belief is ultimately about conviction: the willingness to see worth before the world agrees, to commit before there is consensus, and to hold on long enough for something lasting to take shape,” Akindele said.

He noted that the commitment demonstrated by the collectors in supporting Nigerian art mirrors the principles of long-term investment and value creation.
The exhibition is expected to continue through November 2026, with a series of activities including private viewings for clients, a curated tour for university students and a closing webinar featuring the curator and the collectors.
Chief Marketing and Communications Officer of Coronation Group, Ngozi Akinyele, said the exhibition reflects the organisation’s broader understanding of prosperity beyond financial returns.
She said the preservation of culture, support for talent and promotion of stories and legacies were important expressions of wealth and long-term value creation.
The opening followed a press viewing held on August 21, which attracted more than 70 journalists and media stakeholders, including members of the Capital Markets Correspondents Association of Nigeria, as well as arts, culture, entertainment and business journalists.
Coronation Art Gallery was established to promote African artistic creation, research, education and appreciation of art, while also using its collection as a platform for storytelling, investment and cultural engagement.
According to the organisers, The Value of Belief builds on the gallery’s engagement with stakeholders across business, government, diplomacy and the creative sector, while seeking to make art more accessible to artists, collectors, students, clients and the wider public.

The exhibition will run through November 2026.
