UBA Showcases Next Generation of Women Leaders at ‘Gen.W’ Forum

Africa’s Global Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA), recently hosted a new edition of its quarterly Business Series, spotlighting female leadership and enterprise under the theme “Gen.W: The Evolved Woman.”

The hybrid event, held at UBA House in Marina, Lagos, and streamed to a global audience, formed part of activities marking International Women’s Month.

It focused on the evolving role of women in leadership, business, and innovation, while highlighting how African women are redefining success and driving sustainable impact.

In her opening remarks, UBA’s Group Head, Customer Experience, Michelle Nwoga, described the “evolved woman” as one who is proactive, vocal, and willing to take charge in shaping her environment.

The session was moderated by media personality and actor, Tobi Bakre, who noted that the concept of the evolved woman is not defined by a checklist but by self-awareness and confidence. He added that such women create space for themselves and others to thrive.

Panel discussions featured prominent entrepreneurs and media figures, including Joycee Awosika, Tomike Adeoye, Olufunke Davies, and Ayo Mairo-Ese.

The speakers shared insights on their personal journeys, challenges, and growth as female business leaders.

Awosika emphasised the importance of self-awareness and continuous development, stating that the evolved woman creates opportunities rather than waiting for them.

Adeoye added that women are increasingly defining their own standards and speaking more openly about their challenges while pursuing their ambitions.

Mairo-Ese called for greater visibility among women, urging them to share their achievements and embrace collaboration, while Davies highlighted the importance of persistence, research, and starting small when building a business.

Also speaking at the event, UBA’s Group Head, Brand, Marketing and Corporate Communications, Alero Ladipo, encouraged women to support one another and leverage their individual communities to create impact.

Ladipo further highlighted the bank’s Gen W initiative, describing it as a lifestyle platform designed to support women through expert insights, networking opportunities, and access to resources, including discounted products and financing options.

UBA said it remains committed to empowering women and entrepreneurs through initiatives like the Business Series, which serves as a platform for mentorship, knowledge sharing, and thought leadership across Africa and beyond.
