The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Tuesday inaugurated its Southwest Zonal Working Committee at a stakeholders’ meeting held at Kakanfo Inn, off Ring Road, Ibadan, in a move aimed at strengthening the party’s regional structure and enhancing coordination across the zone.
The event drew key party leaders, state chairmen and stakeholders from the six Southwest states – Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo – underscoring the party’s commitment to grassroots mobilisation and inclusive representation.
The inauguration was presided over by the ADC National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. During the meeting, state chairmen presented reports on the party’s structure, growth and preparedness in their respective states.
Hon. Ilesanmi Omolayo, Ekiti State Chairman, opened the briefing, while Hon. Ashiru George of Lagos concluded the presentations. The reports collectively highlighted what party leaders described as increasing organisational stability and readiness for forthcoming political activities in the region.
In his address, Aregbesola urged party officials and stakeholders to remain committed to strengthening the ADC in the Southwest and nationwide. He emphasised unity, discipline and effective coordination as critical to building a formidable political platform capable of offering Nigerians a credible and people-oriented alternative.
He also stressed the importance of sustained engagement with the national leadership to ensure proper harmonisation and validation of party officers across the states.
As part of the ceremony, the names of Southwest officers serving at the national level were formally read and inaugurated. They include Akinbolawale Omole as National Vice Chairman (Ekiti); Captain Tunji Shelle as National Director, Communication and Programmes (Lagos); Professor Bode Ayorinde as Diversity and Inclusion Secretary (Ondo); Fabiyi Oladimeji as Deputy National Financial Secretary (Ogun); Alhaja Khafilat Omolabake Olayiwola as Deputy National Women Leader (Oyo); Olufemi Adeleye as Deputy Coordinator, Diaspora (Ekiti); and Mrs. Yidiat Omolara Oseni as Assistant National Organising Secretary (Osun).

The ADC said the inauguration marks a significant step toward consolidating its presence in the Southwest and positioning the party as a viable force in Nigeria’s political landscape.
