The government of Denmark has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s maritime sector development and exploring new areas of economic partnerships.
The Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, Jens Ole Bach Jansen, made this known during a recent visit to the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) head office in Lagos.
The ambassador highlighted the longstanding ties between both countries, which have seen Danish government and private companies invest in the Nigerian maritime industry.
He expressed optimism about exploring new areas of collaboration, particularly in training seafarers and maritime security support.
The Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, welcomed the Danish delegation and appreciated their continued engagement with Nigeria, particularly in the maritime sector.
He thanked the Danish government for its longstanding support and expressed confidence that the relationship would grow.
The two countries have collaborated in key areas, including training and professional development for maritime security, and joint efforts to improve Nigeria’s maritime sector’s digital infrastructure.
Danish companies, such as APM Terminals, have invested significantly in Nigerian port infrastructure, while also supporting training initiatives to enhance the skills of Nigerian maritime law enforcement personnel.
The visit underscores the commitment of both countries to deepen their maritime ties and explore new opportunities for cooperation.
With Denmark’s support, Nigeria’s maritime sector is poised for further growth and development.
