MWUN Leadership Meets with Warri Port Management Over Safety Concerns

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) leadership, led by President-General Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, recently paid a visit to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) management in Warri.

The meeting aimed to discuss safety concerns and measures to prevent accidents within the port premises.

Comrade Abi expressed deep concern over the rising number of accidents at the Warri Port, which has recorded the highest number of incidents.

He emphasized the need for strict adherence to safety standards and guidelines to prevent workers from getting hurt or suffering permanent disabilities while on duty.

The MWUN leader called on the NPA to reactivate the use of tally clerks and onboard gangway security men at the port to ensure security is always on check.

He also stressed the importance of 24-hour surveillance and compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code.

Comrade Abi reiterated that Warri Ports must prioritize safety above all else, stating that the port’s operations should be guided by the mantra “Safety, Safety, Safety.”

He also reminded the Ports Authority of the need to post NPA personnel to private jetties and oil and gas platforms in the region to ensure vigilance on security and safety.

The MWUN leader commended the management of the Warri Ports for their resilience and commitment to duty, expressing confidence in their ability to improve the security situation at the port.

He urged workers to maintain a high level of diligence and adhere to safety rules without prejudice.
