FIRS Mourns Loss of Four Staff Members in Lagos Fire Incident

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) is in deep mourning after four of its staff members lost their lives in a fire incident at Afriland Towers, located on Broad Street, Lagos, on Tuesday.

The deceased staff members were working on the sixth and seventh floors of the building, where FIRS has two offices.

The FIRS has identified the deceased staff members as Ekelikhostse George (Assistant Director), David Sunday-Jatto (Assistant Director), Nkem Onyemelukwe (Senior Manager), and Peter Ifaranmaye (Manager).

The FIRS management and staff are in shock and sorrow over the tragic incident. The agency has offered condolences to the grieving families and is providing all necessary support during this difficult time.

The FIRS says it is working with relevant agencies to investigate the cause of the fire and will review safety measures across its offices nationwide.

According to a statement by Dare Adekanmbi, Special Adviser on Media to the FIRS chairman, the agency was alerted to the fire and quickly mobilized its Security and Safety officials, who contacted the fire service. Upon arrival, thick dark smoke was already billowing out of the building.

The FIRS stated that it is with a heavy heart that it announces the tragic loss of its staff members and that the Management and entire staff are in deep shock and sorrow over the development.

The agency has assured the public that it will do everything possible to ensure that the families of the deceased staff members receive the support they need during this difficult time.
