A vessel, MT ENDO PONENTE, has been successfully secured by the Togo Navy after an attempted piracy attack in the Gulf of Guinea.
On August 28, 2025, a Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) team from the Togo Navy boarded the vessel and confirmed that all crew members were safe with no material damage recorded onboard.
A statement signed by Deputy Director/Head, Public Relations, NIMASA, Osagie Edward, says the Multinational Maritime Coordination Centre (MMCC) Zone E, which covers Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and Niger Republic, was promptly informed of the situation.
MMCC Zone F in Accra, Ghana, also played a crucial role in monitoring and sharing information with stakeholders during the incident.
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) deployed its Special Mission Vessel, DB Lagos, operated by the Nigerian Navy, to the scene after confirming the attempted attack.
According to the statement, investigations are currently underway to identify the attackers.
The swift response and cooperation among regional maritime authorities ensured the safety of the crew and the vessel.
The incident serves as a testament to the effectiveness of collaborative efforts in maintaining maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea.
