Dangote Cement Plc has taken a significant step towards enhancing road safety in Nigeria by subjecting no less than 1,500 truck drivers to intensive screening exercises.
The screenings, which assess mental, psychological, and physical fitness, are part of the company’s commitment to safe driving practices.
According to Group Managing Director, Arvind Pathak, the recruitment process for Dangote Cement drivers includes:
– Valid Driver’s License: Class G license is required for all drivers
– Background Verification: Both drivers and guarantors undergo thorough background checks
– Medical Evaluation: Comprehensive medical assessments, including vision screening, blood pressure checks, BMI, and random blood sugar tests
– Drug and Alcohol Testing: Mandatory testing to ensure drivers are substance-free
Pathak emphasized that safety on the road remains the company’s top priority, with thousands of trucks in its fleet. The company is committed to training and retraining its drivers for safe and smooth driving across Nigeria.
All drivers undergo mandatory pre-trip medical assessments conducted by licensed nurses and doctors.
Dangote Cement also cooperates with the Nigeria Police and other relevant authorities in investigating reported incidents, supporting lawful processes, and implementing recommendations that strengthen public safety.
The company’s Absolute Safer Road Policy underscores its dedication to road safety and transparency.
The company recently launched its 2025 Annual Drivers’ Retreat, themed Absolute Safer Road Policy, focused on retraining truck drivers on safety protocols and best practices.
Over 900 drivers participated in the retreat held at the company’s Ibese plant in Ilaro, Ogun State, with another session scheduled for Obajana, Kogi State.
