NIMASA Denies Concession Claims, Emphasizes Commitment to Digital Reform

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has categorically denied claims that it has embarked on a concession of its operations.

The agency attributes the false reports to internal and external elements seeking to benefit from the current system’s loopholes.

NIMASA has instead emphasized its commitment to digital reform to enhance regulatory governance, shipping development, and revenue optimization.

The agency has implemented the Maritime Enhanced Monitoring System (MEMS), which brings digital traceability to Nigeria’s maritime operations.

The MEMS system provides real-time visibility into vessel movements, operational logs, and regulatory interactions.

It also enables automated alerts, smart invoicing, and centralized data integration, eliminating unnecessary bottlenecks and strengthening compliance.

NIMASA aims to optimize revenue for the nation by plugging loopholes in areas such as waste reception services and marine pollution control.

The agency believes that its digital reforms will ensure transparency, efficiency, and accountability in its operations.

The public is advised to disregard the misleading reports and support NIMASA’s transformation journey, which aligns with the national objectives of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The agency’s Deep Blue Project, which has gained global recognition, faced similar resistance at its initial stage.

NIMASA reiterated its committment to strengthening Nigeria’s maritime governance, ensuring environmental safety, and optimizing revenue for the nation.
