The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) is gearing up for its 2024 annual conference, scheduled to hold on December 12 at the Rockview Hotel Apapa, Lagos.
The event, which promises to be a game-changer in Nigeria’s maritime industry, will seeks to unlock the vast potential of the country’s Blue Economy, estimated to be worth around $1.9 trillion.
Themed “Nigeria’s Maritime/Blue Economy Industry under the Renewed Hope Agenda: What is New,” the conference will provide a platform for stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue and explore ways to harness the opportunities inherent in the Blue Economy sector.
According to the outgoing president of AMJON, Paul Ogbuokiri, the event will educate participants on the activities of government and its agencies in actualizing the potential of the Blue Economy.
In the words of Ogbuokiri, “Stakeholders and investors shall be educated on the available opportunities and the conducive environment provided by government for investments to grow and yield tangible returns on investments, ROI, in the sector.”
The conference will feature a lineup of distinguished guests, including the Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, who will serve as the special guest of honor.
Oyetola will also be conferred with the Grand Patron of AMJON. Other notable guests include the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Pius Akutah, and Dr. Paul Adalikwu, Secretary General of MOWCA.
The event will also witness the conferment of patrons and matrons on some notable maritime technocrats, aimed at strengthening and repositioning AMJON to play its statutory role in nation-building.
The Patron of AMJON, Chief Tony Nwabunike, will be joined by other stakeholders in the maritime sector to chart a new course for the association.
In addition to the conferment ceremony, the 2024 AMJON annual lecture will feature the presentation of awards to deserving Nigerians, as well as the inauguration of the newly elected executives, led by Kelvin Kagbare. The new executives will pilot the affairs of AMJON for the next three years.
The conference has already generated significant interest, with top executives indicating their attendance and paper presentations confirmed.
