Commuters in Lagos State would henceforth have to sanitize their hands before and after taking a trip on commercial vehicles while bus operators are to regularly Sanitize their parks and garages before and after each trip.
These form part of the new guidelines to further prevent a State- wide spread of the dreaded corona virus (COVID-19) especially in motor parks, garages and other public transportation related environment.
In a statement, the State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, said the guidelines are henceforth compulsory for all stakeholders in public Transportation in the State to comply with.
According to the statement, “All Transport Operators are expected to have at the entrance to their respective parks and garages, washing hand equipment with soap and running water.”

They are also expected to have alcohol based sanitizers in their Vehicles for the use of Drivers, Conductors and Passengers.
The guidelines does not allow bus operators to over crowd or over load their vehicles at this point in time.
” Passenger’s spacing must be fully observed, NCDC recommends that at least 2m (5feet) distance is required between anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness.” The statement read.
According to the new guidelines, standing in all BRT and LBSL bus operations in the state would no longer be allowed as all buses (‘danfo’ and other commercial buses) should be loaded at 60% capacity and not 100%.
The guidelines further dictate that all Air Conditioning Systems in public transport be put off while all public transport operators must have temperature readers to test every passenger before boarding a bus.
According to the new rules, all drivers and conductors are to always wear hand gloves and nose guides while in transit.
The Commissioner Urges passengers to report any suspected case of the virus infection to the Ministry of Transportation or call 08000CORONA.
Passenger are also expected to report any operator that fails to comply with these guidelines to the monitoring officer at sight or write to the Ministry, stating the vehicle registration number, motor park and time.
