The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended over 50 suspects in connection with the recent clashes between traders and hoodlums that resulted in a fire at the popular Ile-Epo foodstuff market in the Alimosho Local Government Area.
According to eyewitnesses, the hoodlums set fire to stalls filled with goods during the altercation.
Despite attempts by the police to intervene early on, the hoodlums resisted. Additionally, a fire service truck was prevented from entering the market to extinguish the flames.
In a statement, police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin announced that normalcy has been restored at the market. He confirmed the arrest of over fifty suspects and the destruction of the shanties they operated from.
Hundeyin stated, “The DPO Oke-Odo swiftly responded to reports of clashes in the Ile-Epo area and has successfully restored peace.
“The arrested hoodlums will be prosecuted promptly, and the Commissioner of Police has warned that anyone disrupting the peace will face consequences.”
Meanwhile, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) and other law enforcement officials are on the ground to prevent further disturbances in the area.
