Intra-African Trade: President of M.A.N, Mansur Ahmed, To Lead African Manufacturers Association

The African union commission, AUC, is set so establish a Pan-African manufacturers association that would enable manufactures in the continent engage and work with one another for inclusive growth and development

The commissioner of trade AUC, Albert Muchanga, who disclosed this at a forum in Egypt said the president of the manufacturers association of Nigeria, M.A.N, Mansur Ahmed, has been appointed the interim chairman of the committee to birth the African manufacturers association (AMA).

He noted that the role of the chairman includes supervising the process of evolving the association, including drafting articles of association for the new body, in preparation for its inauguration in 2019.

Meanwhile, the director general of M.A.N, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, and the head of Kenya association of manufacturers consulting, Joyce Njogu, have also been appointed joint interim secretaries to drive the process.

In his acceptance speech, Ahmed said he and other members of the committee will immediately commence work on engaging all the manufacturers’ associations across Africa to mid-wife the birth of the Pan-African body.

The AMA interim chairman further said that the platform of the association will facilitate cordial working relationships among manufacturers in the continent.

He added that, establishing the Association is in line with the initiative of the African Union, to promote and deepen intra- African trade in goods and services.

The official inauguration of the African manufacturers association is expected to hold before or during the African industrialization day in November 2019.
